Mr. Porter’s practice focuses primarily on construction industry issues including private, state and federal construction claims. His practice also encompasses 20 years experience in all facets of labor and employment law. His practice brings him before state and federal courts as well as mediation and arbitration forums. Mr. Porter regularly represents contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, developers and owners in complex multi-party construction litigation. His areas of expertise include construction defects, construction collections, mechanics’ liens, stop notices, bond claims, prompt payment remedies, construction contracts, competitive bidding and construction-related labor and employment matters.

Mr. Porter regularly conducts seminars on construction-related topics such as mechanics’ liens, stop notices, bond claims, private, state and federal construction collection procedures, prompt payment remedies, construction contract interpretation and other construction topics. He has presented lectures before construction trade groups such as the American Subcontractors’ Association, the Associated Builders & Contractors, the American Society of Professional Estimators, the California State College System, Builders’ Exchanges throughout California, Lorman Seminars, National Business Institute and numerous individual contractors throughout the state.

Mr. Porter currently serves as regional legal counsel to the American Subcontractors Association of California. He is on the ASA California Government Relations Committee. He is a member of the Associated General Contractors of California and the Associated Builders & Contractors Golden Gate Chapter. He serves as a private mediator and arbitrator and has regularly contributed to legislation on behalf of the construction industry.
